Biography

Brett Whiteley is regarded as one of Australia's most celebrated and influential artists. He won the Art Gallery of NSW Archibald, Wynne and Sulman prizes a number of times and enjoyed a successful career both in Australia and overseas. Working across painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture, Whiteley developed a unique visual language. Renowned for his iconic depictions of Sydney Harbour and his ambitious studio interiors, Whiteley was equally captivated by the human figure, producing a remarkable body of nude drawings that reveal both technical skill and emotional intimacy. He drew inspiration from European masters including Matisse and Picasso while remaining deeply connected to the Australian landscape.
