Ray Crooke (1922–2015) is regarded as one of Australia's most distinguished twentieth-century painters, celebrated for his evocative depictions of the tropical landscapes and coastal communities of northern Australia and the Pacific. Characterised by a restrained palette, simplified forms and a remarkable sensitivity to light and atmosphere, Crooke's paintings capture moments of profound stillness that transcend place, conveying a universal sense of tranquillity and contemplation.
