Biography
Godfrey Miller was one of Australia's most significant modernist painters, celebrated for his poetic and deeply personal approach to abstraction. Although he produced a relatively small body of work during his lifetime, Miller's paintings are now recognised as among the most important achievements of Australian modernism. Drawing inspiration from music, spirituality and the rhythms of nature, Miller developed a distinctive visual language of luminous colour and harmonious geometric forms. Working largely outside prevailing artistic trends, he created paintings that explored universal themes of balance, emotion and transcendence. Today, he is regarded as a pioneering figure in Australian modern art, whose work helped expand the possibilities of abstraction in Australia.
