Biography
Adrian Lawlor, author, poet, artist and critic, was born in England in 1889 and emigrated to Australia in 1910. Lawlor had briefly attended art classes at the National Gallery but found the rigid structure frustrating. Lawlor held his first exhibition in 1930, and exhibited frequently until a fire in 1939 destroyed his house and over two hundred of his paintings. Although he held a further exhibition at the Athenaeum Gallery in 1940, Lawlor then focussed on his writing for The Sun News-Pictorial where he served as an art critic. He fulfilled the same role on radio for many years.
