Biography
John Peart was one of Australia's foremost abstract painters, celebrated for a career spanning nearly five decades. While his work evolved through diverse styles—from the bold geometric forms of the 1960s to the lyrical, atmospheric compositions of his later years—abstraction remained at the heart of his practice. A participant in the landmark 1968 exhibition The Field, Peart helped shape the direction of contemporary Australian abstraction. The Australian landscape became an increasingly important source of inspiration. Peart was awarded the Wynne Prize in 1997 and the Sulman Prize in 2000, and his works are held in important Australian public collections.
