Featuring the elegance and joyousness of a pelican, Olsen’s animal subjects imbue his works with characteristic joie de vivre, often magnified by a playful use of colour. Olsen's love of creatures continued throughout his career and in this work, the whimsical pelican that basks in the sun is deftly brought to life as it wistfully splashes water across the glazed ceramic surface.
